It's Done

There comes a time to let a piece go. That’s it. It’s done.

No more chances to change one more thing. No more time to consider how it should grow and carefully guide it in the right direction.

Hand the piece over to the world and step back. Let the work stand on its own without your support.

The rawness you feel where the art has detached from your heart will slowly heal over. Draw back into yourself and start to nourish the next seed. There will be one waiting for you. Hold the new seed in your heart until it germinates. Carefully tend it till it bears fruit.

When the fruit ripens, the time has come to let the piece go. That’s it. It’s done …

I'm an artist, author, and teaching artist. I've been writing about drawing on this website since 1999 and drawing since I was old enough to hold a pencil. I love teaching others how to draw too.
