I like to stand rooted in my center and draw from that place. Still, though, ideas for drawings don’t come to me out of the blue like magic. I have to stand, or sit, at my core and put the pencil to the paper to form a channel for the ideas to flow through. I guess that makes me a conduit.
I really have a hard time actively searching for ideas, they hide behind the trees and stick out their tongues at me when I look the other way. No, searching for drawing ideas does not work. I have to make a place for the ideas to land before they come swooping in. That place a piece of paper. A landing strip. I stand by with my pencil and quickly sketch the ideas as they flutter in.
This is not a commercial way to go about making art! As a matter of fact, it almost assures my failure in that realm. But, you see, I can’t do it any other way. And, I have to do it. I have to draw. So I just stand rooted in my center and draw from that place. It’s a wonderful place to be.
