Trees are so visible this time of year in Michigan. All their leaves are gone and I can see their trunks really well. Sometimes their limbs look like human arms and it’s easy to see faces in their trunks. I can understand how some people believe that spirits live in trees.
I’d like to draw a tree spirit. I’d like to create a scene with a tree that looked back at me as I looked at it. I think a drawing like that would cross the boundaries of two artforms; it would remain a drawing but it would also become a story. That’s ok, I think visual artists are story tellers, too. Or they can be if they let their imaginations lead them into that realm.
Now I just have to find the right tree. :)
