Two Cats in a Beam – Not Quite Done

Two Cats In A Beam - Beginning

I thought I’d let you take a peek at Two Cats in a Beam. It’s not quite done yet. I’ve blocked in the major shapes and have started adding detail to the cat on the right. I blocked in everything to a value midway between the lightest and darkest values in each area so that I could easily add highlights and shadows on top of that base value. I love drawing this way.

  1. Wow, it is already so beautiful…I can’t wait to see what more you do! It is so interesting reading about your process. I’ve never considered working with a middle value first, especially with pencil. Thanks for sharing!

  2. Thanks Suzanne!

I think working from a mid value is a quick way to get a drawing started … and then you can sneak up on the details as you want.

    Happy drawing to you,
