Talking about drawing from the heart is a wonderful way to start out in my new home here at Typepad. Sometimes when you are drawing from life you simply cannot capture the scene. The essence alludes you no matter how many times you try to see it and draw it. These efforts, while frustrating, can be informing you on a different level, though. Next time a scene just won’t be drawn, try to stay nonjudgmental. Just keep drawing until you are tired and then put away your sketchbook and enjoy the rest of the day. In the next day or two, try drawing the scene from memory! Something wonderful may have happened. The essence of the scene may have ripened on the vine. Pick it!
This view of Park Island was drawn from my heart after several unsuccessful attempts to draw it from life.
